Cataract Services

Cataract

Cataract is the clouding of the lens of your eye that impairs vision. Cataract is responsible for more than half of blindness in the world, which is a grim fact because it is a treatable condition. In cataract there is a buildup of protein in the lens that makes it cloudy. This prevents light from passing clearly through the lens, thereby causing loss of vision.

Treatment of cataract

Surgery is the only successful mode of cataract treatment. The surgeon removes the clouded lens and puts an intraocular lens which remains inside the eye throughout the life. With modern advances in surgery, the types of surgery as well as intraocular lens have evolved. The need of glasses has decreased. In today’s time the surgery is stich-less, injection free and pain free.

The various types of surgery for cataract are as follows:

  • Phacoemulsification
  • Mics
  • Sics
  • Femtolaser assisted surgery
  • Ecce

We use AMO compact phaco machine with white star technology and ellips phaco handpiece, which helps in superior patient satisfaction and less damage to cornea and other structure in eye during cataract surgery. The surgery is done with keyhole incision ranging from 3.2, 2.8, 2.2, 1.8 mm incisions. Through these small incisions, a very high frequency Phaco tip is introduced inside the eye, breaking the hardest of cataracts into very small fragments which are removed through the same tip. This provides the advantage of speedy recovery, faster healing and lesser surgical induced astigmatism.

Various lenses available are as follows:

  • Unifocal hydrophillic iol
  • Unifocal hydrophobic iol
  • Multifocal hydrophillic iol
  • Multifocal hydrophobic iol
  • Toric iol
